After a four year hiatus, the Minuteman is proud to be back on campus. As the paper's editorial board, we feel honored and humbled to walk in the footsteps of the esteemed former editors and reporters of this hallowed little paper. We will strive to continue our reputation as the only UMass publication that is unafraid to challenge the Leftist campus orthodoxy.
Founded in 1985 by a band of gutsy, ambitious conservative students, the Minuteman was meant to counter the radical and perverse Left-wing ideology that had nefariously infiltrated the campus establishment. Through its 20-year run, the Minuteman fearlessly exposed countless incidents of corruption at UMass, holding the administration, local politicians, and student leaders accountable for their actions.
As UMass students, we're all fortunate to reside on a campus that has a rich history of political activism. From 1985 to 2005, the Minuteman was there to cover these events from a conservative perspective.
The paper's contributions to the community dialogue have been considerable. We've broken stories ranging from the Student Government takeover of 1991, to the more recent racial class assignments at Amherst elementary schools.
We've covered local and national issues from a conservative bent, and promoted traditional values, patriotism, and fiscal responsibility through our analysis and editorials.
The historical concept of the "minuteman" still holds a lot of meaning in this part of the country. He was the cowboy of the Northeast, the fearless patriot, the scrappy underdog-- and now, more than ever, his urgent message is needed at this university. The Minuteman staff will keep this in mind as we navigate through our first year back on campus.
We thank you for choosing to read us, and sincerely hope that you enjoy our first monthly issue.
Veritas Vincit,
Minuteman Editorial Board
